Xuexing Yao

Xuexing Yao is a PhD Candidate in Environmental Science at the GreatLakes Institute for Environmental Research, University of Windsor. Her PhDresearch uses a One Health approach to investigate wildlife- andwastewater-associated contributions to Escherichia coli contamination andantimicrobial resistance in the nearshore Detroit River. Her project focuses onsource attribution, environmental surveillance, and prevention-orientedmonitoring of microbial risks at the human-animal-environment interface. She combinesfield sampling, culture-based E. coli enumeration, microbial source tracking,antimicrobial resistance phenotyping, and statistical modelling to betterunderstand how wildlife, wastewater, shoreline sands, and environmentalconditions contribute to water quality risks. Her previous M.Sc. researchfocused on freshwater eutrophication, harmful algal blooms, phytoplanktonecology, and water quality monitoring.
