Canopy aims to support trainees in completing their graduate programs and/or a complementary internship (distinct from their current research program) that will enhance Canada’s ability to prevent, prepare for, or respond to emerging zoonotic diseases using a One Health approach.
As part of the program, trainees will be able to participate in targeted One Health learning opportunities and deepen their engagement with Indigenous perspectives and other knowledge systems.
Opportunities to apply will be posted on this website and our LinkedIn page when they become available (see below to find out when the next call for applications will be launched).
Interested trainees can apply for funding and to join the platform through two different streams:
Subject to eligibility requirements, trainees may apply
to both streams in the same year.
Canopy will offer a scholarship of 5,000$ to each successful applicant interested in One Health and whose research relates to the prevention, preparedness for, or response to emerging zoonotic diseases.
Canopy will offer up to 10,000$ to each successful applicant to support short-term internships/placements in institutions involved in the prevention, preparedness for, and response to emerging zoonotic diseases. This funding is intended to support experiential learning outside of your current institution/organisation and in a different discipline to your current work, and can be used to support travel, accommodation, living expenses, tuition or other (up to 3 months).
Applying to Canopy is a simple three-step process. When the next call opens, review the eligibility criteria, connect with the right mentors, and complete the online application form
When the call for applications opens, review the eligibility requirements to make sure you qualify.
Identify a mentor who is available and willing to mentor you for the duration of the Canopy training, meets the eligibility criteria listed in the call for applications, and accepts the expectations of mentors listed in the call.
For internship support, you will need to identify two mentors; one at your home institution (home mentor), and one at the institution which is hosting your internship (host mentor).
Complete the online application form by the stated deadline. Following your submission, a short questionnaire will be sent to your proposed mentor(s), asking them to confirm their awareness of your application and to accept the eligibility requirements and expectations for Canopy mentors.
We are not accepting applications at this time. Opportunities to apply will be announced on this website and our LinkedIn page.
